2011 Frisk Prickly Riesling

Now here is something fun and versatile.  The 2011 Frisk Prickly Riesling will have mass appeal for the Riesling fan as well as anyone who loves Moscato or dessert wines.  The 2011 vintage is comprised of 89% Riesling and 11% Muscat Gordo.  This Australian import is nearly colorless with just small wisps of light yellow on the rim.  Very fragrant aromas of ripe citrus fruits, spring bouquet and the smallest hint of lavender.  In the mouth is a light bodied, airy, flavorful and sweet wine that tickles the palate with every sip.  The flavors highlighted here are orange marmelade, lemon zest, bits of lime and kiwi and fresh polished minerals.  The 'prickly' surprise in this wine will have that appeal for the Moscato fan and the flavors allow this to be a great sipping wine or a great poultry and fish compliment.

2010 Robert Mondavi Pinot Noir Carneros

The 2010 Carneros Pinot Noir from the Robert Mondavi Winery is a 100% varietal and gorgeously medium red in the glass.  There is a lot going on in this glass and I think this is one of the best Pinot Noir the winery has produced from this region in recent years.  A potpourri of flavors are in the glass, including red raspberry, sweet baking spices, mocha and forest floor.  The aromas are inviting and are a testatment of the terroir and there is a balanced acidity.  The tannins are very fine and seemlessly integrated in this flavorful and memorable wine.

2009 Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2009 Napa Valley Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon reminds me why I love Napa Valley Cabernet and once again solidifies the incredible quality that has come out of the winery in recent years.  This vintage contains 31% of the To Kalon vineyard fruit, compared to 40% in 2008.  The 2009 vintage is comprised of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 2% Syrah, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec.  Dark plum skin colored with bold aromas of plum, blueberry, cocoa powder, tree bark and cinnamon.  The flavors of dark juicy blackberry are joined with cinnamon, blueberry, cassis and hints of unsweeted chocolate and vanilla.  There is a lot of fruit in this wine and despite its very young age and being in the bottle less than six months, it can be enjoyed right now or be cellared for several years.  The finish is long and welcoming and I think this wine is a hit and pays homage to Mr. Mondavi.

About Robert Mondavi Winery:
Robert Mondavi’s original vision was to produce wines from the Napa Valley that would stand in the company of the world’s finest. The Napa Valley Wines reflect the elegance, harmony and balance he foresaw when he founded the winery in 1966.

2010 Ancient Peaks Winery Sauvignon Blanc

The 2010 Sauvignon Blanc from Ancient Peaks Winery is a 100% varietal with most of the fruit (85%) sourced from the Margarita Vineyard.  I love a good Sauvignon Blanc when it is well made and provides pure fruit flavors and that is what you will find here.  Very focused berry and bright citrus aromas are present on the nose.  In the mouth are flavors that include pineapple, honeydew, lime and wonderful crisp minerals.  All of the flavors are framed with a lively and balanced acidity and this is a fantastic food wine for seafood, sushi or chicken.

About Ancient Peaks Winery:
The Margarita Vineyard, where most of the fruit comes for this wine, is SIP (Sustainably in Practice) certified by the Central Coast Vineyard Team.  This distinction is made due to the natural qualities in the wine from the farming and harvesting practices associated with this vineyard.

2007 Krupp Brothers Veraison Cabernet Sauvignon

The famous Stagecoach Vineyard fruit is some of the best in Napa Valley, and it shines in this 2007 Veraison Cabernet Sauvignon from Krupp Brothers!  In addition to the 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, there is also 14% Cabernet Franc, 4% Malbec, 4% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot in this blend.  I'm normally a 100% Cab snob, but this wine is excellent and worth your time!  Hearty aromas of coffee shop, tobacco, plum and dark cherry combine with a familiar old world earthy goodness that starts the mouth watering.  This wine is beautifully marked in the glass, almost like a layered painting of red and purple colors.  On the palate is a very refined and gorgeous flavor combination of plum, black currant, dark chocolate, dried herb and hints of mineral.  Sexy and silky with a nice long finish.

2007 Krupp Brothers Synchrony Red Wine

The 2007 Synchrony red wine from Krupp Brothers is an incredibly smart and tasty blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot, 4% Malbec and 3% Merlot.  Each of these grapes add some character and flavors to this red wine, which is actutally nearly opaque in the glass.  Bountiful dark juicy fruit aromas are joined with black and red currant, vanilla and mocha.  Very mouth coating from the first sip to the last, this wine offers a flavor profile that includes blackberry, ripe black cherry, mocha and semi sweet chocolate.  The tannins are ripe and chewy and allow for a memorable and long finish.  As always, Krupp Brothers should get mention for their gorgeous packaging too!

2007 Krupp Brothers Black Bart's Bride

The folks at Krupp Brothers have created a delicious and rich white blend of 43% Marsanne, 37% and 20% Chardonnay in this Napa Valley stunner.  Wonderfully concentrated aromas of honeysuckle and peach are presented initially, followed by apricot and spring flowers upon swirling.  The flavors effortlessly glide across the palate and offer a taste of peach, apricot, minerals and honey.  The wine is weighted beautifully and is not overly sweet, appealing to the white and red wine enthusiast.  Wonderful!
