2009 Mollydooker The Scooter Merlot

The 2009 vintage of The Scooter Merlot from Mollydooker is a very dark purple wine with deep, delicious aromas of plum, black cherry, tea leaves and cinnamon.  Unlike many American Merlot, this is a very full bodied and mouth coating wine with a complex flavor profile of black cherry, mulberry, plum, rich chocolate and spices.  The tannins are very smooth and juicy and the finish is long and unforgettable.  This wine boasts a whopping 17% ABV, but there was little heat on the finish.  I recommend decanting this young stunner before serving.  I am thoroughly impressed at what is in the bottle for such a great price!

2008 Methven Family Vineyards House Block Pinot Noir

The 2008 Methven Family Vineyards Pinot Noir is from the Eola Amity Hills AVA and is showing incredible character and long range possibility for a wine that has been in the bottle only 15 months.  Bright red with hints of purple in the glass, this wine is aromatic and flavorful.  I like a Pinot Noir that has a fruity nose, and you get that with this wine.  Black and red fruits are center stage with oak and earthiness not far behind.  On the palate is a medium bodied and delicious example of the terroir of this area.  Black raspberry, leather, minty cinnamon are brought together in this finely made wine.  The oak integration is just beginning to show its place, and will further integrate with some bottle age.  The tannins are fine and help provide a nice long finish with some spice.  This is a great Oregon Pinot Noir worth checking out.

2008 Rodney Strong Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley

Rodney Strong Vineyards are generally inexpensive and plentiful - a bargain in a bottle.  And that's what you have with this 2008 vintage Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley.  Great red-purple in the glass, powerful fruit aromas of plum and blackberry with vanilla and herbs in the background.  In the mouth is a generous amount of the same fruit, vanilla, oak and baking spices all framed by tannins that should be considered soft for a Cabernet this young.  I would recommend decanting for at least 30 minutes prior to drinking.  This wine finishes soft and memorable and should be enjoyed over the next 5 years.

2008 Sweet Valley Wines Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon from Sweet Valley Wines is without a doubt the best Cabernet Sauvignon I have tasted from the Walla Walla Valley.  Putting aside the simple sleek but mysterious label and contrasting white wax seal, this wine could be packaged in a paper bag and I would still list it as amazing.  Blood red with wisps of garnet in the glass, after decanting this wine for one hour a myriad of aromas were drawn out of the glass, including raspberry, cedar, ground espresso beans, natural tobacco leaf, young leather, licorice and plum.  On the palate is a mouth full of flavors that include blackberry, dark cherries, black currant, toasted marshmallows, smoke and warm tar.  There is just the perfect amount of moderate spices that combine with an incredibly chewy and flavorful wine that create a finish that will stay with you and make you want to go back for another glass.  The Cabernet grapes were sourced from 5 different vineyards, but you'd swear this was a single vineyard cult status wine.  This wine spent 28 months in French oak and the production is low, so don't delay in getting this one.  All of this for only $35 US in the bottle.  Samples tasted from two bottles with consistent notes.  Amazing!

About Sweet Valley Wines:
The winery is named after a famous agricultural product - the Walla Walla Sweet Onion - and represents the love for world class land, food and wine.  Sweet Valley Wines current produces around 2,000 cases of wine annually through its two labels - Sweet Valley Wines and Righteous.

2009 Mollydooker The Boxer Shiraz

Just a sip or two of the 2009 The Boxer Shiraz from Mollydooker and it is easy to understand why this has become one of the most popular Shiraz in America in recent years.  Incredibly powerful with rounded edges, this Shiraz packs a punch that is full of flavors of strawberry pie, cherries, black and red licorice sticks, spices and oak.  Incredibly colored and very aromatic, this Shiraz has your mouth watering with the berry, smoke and spicy currant aromas when you unscrew the cap and begin the pour.  The finish is incredibly long and the tannins are seemlessly integrated.  I like wineries who "get" not only the winemaking, but the marketing side as well, which is evident by The Boxer's double Mollydooker label!  The Boxer is part of the "Lefty Wines" from Mollydooker and carries an incredibly fair price tag of $25 US.

About Mollydooker Wines:

2007 Pine Ridge Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2007 vintage Cabernet Sauvignon from Pine Ridge Vineyards of Napa Valley once again reaffirms my love for most 2007 Cabernets from this region.  This wine is very dense and has lively red colors, showing its young age.  Upon pouring, classic Cabernet Sauvingon aromas of plum, blackberry, toasted nuts, earth and black cherry leap out of the glass.  Decanted for approximately 45 minutes prior to tasting.  In the mouth is a very rich and full flavor profile of the blackberry, cherry pipe tobacco, warm chocolate sauce, Mother Earth and baking spices.  Firm tannins provide a solid structure and everything comes together in a long finish that will turn the corners of your mouth upward.  Just lovely.
