There have been some outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon come out of Napa Valley in 2006, and the single vineyard Alante Cabernet Sauvignon is no exception. This dark purple wine is very inviting with rich aromas of plum, cassis, black fruits, leather bound books, wet spring flowers, black cherries and cocoa powder. If the complexity of the aromas isn't enough for you, you're likely to be blown away by the layered flavors of dark fruits, blackberry pie, cherry pipe tobacco, sweet smoke, vanilla and chocolate. The acidity is bright and the tannins are very smooth. The combination of everything in this bottle is nothing short of amazing.
About Alante Vineyard:
Over the years, the Van den Bosch family has received many requests for Alante Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon to be released commercially to the public. They finally agreed to do this, starting with this vintage - the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve from R&B Cellars is a fine example of a Napa Valley Cabernet, but at a price that is affordable for most of the drinking public. The reserve Cabernet is the top shelf wine of R&B Cellars, selling at $50 retail US when most of their wines are $12 - $28 range. At the $50 price tag I still consider this quite a bargain for all that is in this bottle. This new release is a dark plum skin colored wine and is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, but there is a very small addition of Merlot in the glass as well. The aromas of black cherry, blackberry, floral bouquet, tea and plum immediately grab you and pull you in. After some time in the glass and swirling the flavors of blackberry, cherry, semi-sweet chocolate, currants and jammy dark fruits dance in the mouth. There is a small amount of reserved spice towards the back of the palate and the tannins match beautifully with this young Cabernet, leaving you with a lingering finish and a empty bottle very quickly! This is a wine you can hold onto for years, but it is drinking wonderfully now.

This estate Chardonnay from Chamisal Vineyards is one that I think everyone will enjoy, as it is creamy, texutred and full of flavors. The 2008 vintage was age on the lees for several months, applying characteristic flavors and depth to the wine. In the glass is a golden Chardonnay with ripe aromas of lemon zest, peaches, orange candy and vanilla. Very nice fullness in the mouth with mildly sweet flavors of pineapple, lemon and spring flowers in the forefront. Other flavors are blended in during the tasting experience such as warm buttered toast, sweet cheesecake, butterscotch candies and hazelnut. This wine is tantalizing and enjoyable. 100% Chardonnay.

The 2007 vintage Black Bart's Bounty Syrah from Krupp Brothers is another outstanding example of the fine wines produced by this unique winery. The wine is nearly black in color to the rim of the glass. Bold aromas of blueberry, licorice, pepper and floral notes dominate the nose. In the mouth is a very full bodied and lively example of fine Syrah, with flavors of blackberry, raspberry, licorice, roasted peppers and just a touch of dark chocolate. The flavors combine superbly and the tannins are on board for an incredibly long finish that is just fantastic and memorable. Taste this wine and you won't forge it! This wine is a blend of Syrah (96%), Viognier (2%) and Marsanne (2%).
