2009 Leeuwin Estate Siblings Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

This 2009 Leeuwin Estate is a blend of 62% Sauvignon Blanc and 38% Semillon.  Yellow green in the glass, this refreshing and low alcohol (12.5%) wine lifts citrus and lemon aromas and flavors, paired almost equally with fresh herbs and spring rains.  Very crisp and lively, and the finish is distinctly sweet and semi dry.  This wine is delicious and will make a fantastic spring and summer sipper or a great companion to your guacamole and chips.

2008 d'Arenberg The Footbolt Shiraz

One of the best tried and true Shiraz from d'Arenberg at a price point ($20 US) everyone can afford.  This medium bright red Shiraz combines cherries, plum, stoney tannins and nutmeg with a peppery and lively finish.  The balance of the flavors makes this wine enjoyable and very drinkable now or within the next 5-7 years for best drinking.  Medium finish with ripe red fruits and fresh strawberries.

2007 d'Arenberg The Laughing Magpie Shiraz Viognier

Purple violet in color and a dramatic boquet of blueberry, sweet smoke, summer flowers, and exotic minerals.  You could almost get drunk off of the aromas themselves!  Tons of pleasure in this full bodied wine with expressive flavors of ripe and candied blueberries, dominant spices, blackberry, mulberry and smoky charcoal that provide an incredibly long and complex finish that will only make you want more.  The 5% Viognier helps keep the tannins in check and provides balance.  Incredible wine and you'll be drinking this for the next 10-12 years thinking the same thing!

2007 Hagafen Estate Bottled Napa Valley Syrah

Medium to very dark red in the glass, this 2007 Syrah from Hagafen presents with luscious and ripe dark fruits on the nose.  Tons of black cherry, leather and dark chocolate fill the mouth with chewy and mouth watering tannins.  Great long lingering finish that mellows at the end.  This wine would pair great with a hearty beef stew or tangy vegetable soup.

2005 Chateau Thomas Chardonnay Carneros

Served well chilled, this medium oaked Charonnay presented a wonderful medium golden color and aromas of ginger, pear and pineapple.  There is a lively but not overbearing spicy ginger and pear flavor intertwined with pineapple cream and smoky oak.  Nice medium finish and a great pearing with grilled or baked chicken.

2006 Chronicle Pinot Noir Cerise Vineyard Anderson Valley

If you've never tasted a cellar worth Pinot Noir, try this very limited production from Chronicle.  This 2006 Pinot Noir exhibits a dark purple color with a very earthy and woodsy aroma of raspberries and ripe blackberries as well as those dominate flavors in the glass.  But you do pick up some black cherry and just a flicker of red currant towards the back palate.  This wine is a very full bodied chewy wine with plenty of strong tannins that are just now beginning to settle in a bit.  You can drink this wine now but ultimately it will be best in 2 -3 more years and should cellar for at least 10.

2007 Truchard Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Carneros

While it is unusual to find Cabernet Sauvignon grown in the Carneros region, Truchard does it very well.  This dark plum colored Cabernet has a different flavor combination than many, and the mixture of plum, green pepper, vanilla and black currants intermingle very well.  Truchard blends some Cabernet Franc with this wine, which softens it up and brings a bouquet and flavorful palate of tobacco, violet and raspberry towards the mid to back palate.  Soft supple tannins insure a very enjoyable finish.  Drink now and easily for the next 15 years.

2009 Stickybeak Chardonnay Russian River Valley

Wow!  This is a delicious Chardonnay just how I like it - crisp and first, creamy towards the end and not overly oaked.  Pear dominates the peach, but there is a nutty, spicy aroma that really blends them together beautifully.  The opening crispness wakes up your palate and prepares it for a more refined creamy feeling while tasting green pear, peach and almonds.  There is a great balance of crispness and sweetness that make this a fantastic wine and an incredible bargain at just $17 US.  Drink best now or within the next 5 years.

2009 Stickybeak Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma Coast

Pale golden, this Sauvignon Blanc will wake you up with the crisp and lively aromas on the nose.  There is a lot of citrus notes of lime, lemon and tangerine alongside fresh cut grass and a sweet spicy powerful punch that is packed in there too.  The flavors fall right in line with the aromas and if chilled well, this delicious wine will pair well with cheese or baked fish.

2008 Stickybeak Syrah Napa Valley

This dark violet Napa County Syrah from Stickybeak is a real palate pleaser.  Right after you remove the top you get a very fragrant wine with blackberry, plum, black pepper and a little bit of violet.  This is a very creamy and smooth wine with micro tannins that provide the right amount of linger against flavors of dark chocolate, espresso, blackberry and very ripe gooseberry.  This is not a sugary sweet bomb but a more refined and classy tasting Syrah.  Great stuff here!

2009 Stickybeak Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast

Great showing and the first Stickybeak I've tasted.  Very clean and full mouth Pinot Noir with a bright raspberry and cherry flavor and nose.  This wine was matured 10 months in French Oak, helping to provide some cedar qualities under the fruit.  Rose petals and young plums are also tasted in this wine, which has a very nice and balanced finish.  This would be a great grilled pork pairing wine or pork tenderloin with cranberry chutney.
